Repair and Regeneration of Drives, Controllers, Geared Motors and Gearmotors

An engineering service combining microelectronics, precision mechanics and industrial programming — repair of inverters, PLCs, HMIs and IPCs, regeneration of gearmotors, plus parameter backup and transfer procedures.

The ENETIV technical service department covers the full spectrum of repairs for modular, control, computing and electromechanical drive equipment.1 Unlike standard electronics workshops, an engineering-grade automation service must combine advanced expertise in microelectronics, precision mechanics and industrial programming.3

Repair of electronic components and drives

The service process for inverters, converters, PLC modules, HMI operator panels and industrial computers (IPC) follows rigorous measurement and assembly procedures.5 Diagnostics include measuring the dynamic parameters of semiconductor components, ESR testing of capacitors and thermal imaging analysis of circuits under load.6

The most common service operations focus on replacing IGBT power modules and rectifier bridges, repairing switch-mode power supplies, regenerating damaged communication ports (Ethernet, Profibus, CAN) and replacing worn-out touch screens in HMI panels.3 After repair, every device undergoes functional and load testing on dedicated test rigs that simulate the real operating environment.3

Service of geared motors and gearmotors

Repairing electromechanical drives such as geared motors and gearmotors requires a distinct approach that integrates mechanical engineering with electrical engineering.13 These devices operate in harsh environmental conditions (dust, high temperatures, vibration), which leads to mechanical wear of the subassemblies.16

ENETIV's comprehensive gearmotor service procedure covers:

  • Preliminary diagnostics: measuring stator winding resistance, insulation testing and assessing backlash on the gearbox and output shafts.13
  • Disassembly and inspection: dismantling the housing, assessing the wear level of gears, splines and shafts, and the condition of the bearings.
  • Electrical service: if inter-turn short circuits or thermal damage are detected, a full rewinding of induction motor or servo drive stators is performed using insulation materials of a higher temperature class.13
  • Mechanical reconstruction: replacing rolling bearings and sealing rings (oil seals) that prevent oil leakage from the gearbox, regenerating bearing seats and dynamically balancing the motor rotor to eliminate vibration.13
  • Assembly and final testing: filling the gearbox with new oil of the appropriate viscosity, sealing the housing and running operational tests under rated load to check the operating temperature and noise emission.13

Data integrity: backup and parameter transfer procedures

The physical repair of hardware is only half of the process of restoring a machine to operation. Without the appropriate application software and parameter configuration, a PLC controller or inverter is nothing more than a useless electronic component.13 ENETIV places particular emphasis on the security of customer data, implementing dedicated transfer and backup procedures.13

Before starting physical work, and provided the condition of the device allows it, the engineers establish communication with the processor to copy the program memory (project upload) and read out the configuration registers and recipes.12 This data is catalogued and secured according to redundancy principles: one copy is kept in the service department's local archive, a second in a secured cloud computing environment, and a third is delivered directly to the customer on a physical medium.15

If a damaged unit needs to be replaced with another, the service performs what is known as "parameter cloning".13 This process involves precisely transferring the EEPROM/Flash memory map, network settings, PID controller settings and frequency characteristics directly onto the new or regenerated device.12 This makes it possible to reduce the machine's startup time after installation to an absolute minimum, eliminating the need for recalibration and reprogramming of the system by external integrators.13
